Tecnica Cochise 2022 range - Best Freeride ski boot update
The new Tecnica Cochise range is a standout ski boot innovation story in our 2022 range. For nearly 10 years the Tecnica Cochise series has showcased backcountry / touring features integrated by design into a ski boot that could perform just as well on the groomers.
It’s fair to say that only now are we seeing these multi-functional freeride ski boots performing as adventurous skiers want and need them to.
The ideal freeride ski boot brief would look like this:
- Lightweight construction, making heading uphill easier.
- Traditional ski boot fit and foot hold for max control.
- Good range of smooth hiking flexibility for longer uphill strides.
- Solid forward flex for bombing it on the way down.
- Energy return and rebound that you get from traditional Alpine ski boots.
This winter the Tecnica Cochise range addressed all these features.
The weight of a ski boot is most notable heading back up the hill, either for a short hike or skinning and exploring. Tecnica shaved nearly 10% off the weight of the new Cochise range getting them down to around 1750g per boot.
The fit of the Cochise range feels snug and supportive thanks to a ski boot shell and liner technology that Tecnica call C.A.S., Custom Adaptive Systems. These fit and customisation features make for an impressive out-of-the-box fit that can be effectively moulded and stretched to accommodate different foot shapes.
The Cochise range has a 99mm last which will fit medium width feet best. Special attention was also paid to providing a little extra big-toe wiggle room.
Increased downhill performance, stiffer flex and energy return is largely thanks to the Cochise’s most innovative feature called the T.Ride walk / hike mechanism. Release the T.Ride lock mechanism and the Cochise freely flexes making ascending more comfortable. Lock the T.Ride into ski mode and the metal-on-metal interface provides a stiffer flex that returns energy like a traditional alpine ski boot.
This range of freeride ski boots have many more features like Dynafit inserts, Grip Walk soles, Asymmetric Power transmission shell design and the list goes on. The long list of features lifts the RRP of the Cochise 2022 range lightly. That said, these are the best example of a one ski boot for everything.
