The Hoka One One Bondi 5 is a complete update on the previous model, the Bondi 4. The innovative materials used in the Bondi 5 have reduced the weight from 300 grams to approx 285 grams. The fit of the Bondi 5 is now using the same fit as the highly acclaimed Hoka Clifton 3. This new last is 3mm wider across the balls of the foot but still fitted, snug and secure around the mid-foot and rear-foot. The benefit of the extra width is that it helps with circulation and allows the foot to splay more naturally. Engineered mesh has been utilized in the upper design. The mesh is more open where flexibility is needed and tighter, structured and re-reinforced where support and foot hold are required. Basically, any negative press the Bondi 4 received for being too narrow has been well and truly dealt with in the Bondi 5.
The Hoka Bondi 5 midsole has maintained a 4mm drop from heel to toe, same as previous version. The fore-foot and rear-foot rocker design also looks unchanged. Hoka kept these two features unchanged which is important as these innovations are the backbone of Hoka’s success. What has changed is the heel crash pad, the flex groves and re-molding the look of the midsole. All of these updates are progression based, without effecting the mild pronation supporting capabilities of the Hoka Bondi 5. Finally, the outsole rubber has been re-positioned to protect the midsole and improve traction.
