The Hoka Speedgoat 5 wide is the complete trail running shoe. Speedgoat 5 has been tweaked in many ways from the previous version, but cleverly, this has only made it better. It has also kept so much of the well regarded Speedgoat features and looks very familiar from a design point of view. Hoka even managed to shave some weight off from the previous Speedgoat 4 wide version.
From the top down - The new upper design is made from a dual layer jacquard mess. This technology provides a neat and close fit that is also adaptive and suits a range of foot shapes. The upper design across the front of the foot features a stretchy 'neoprene like' material that accommodates slightly wider feet and any foot swelling on longer runs. There is also a 'wide' fit version for any wider footed trail runners out there.
Under the foot, the Hoka Speedgoat 5 wide has the prefect blend of cushioning and springiness. The forefoot meta rocker feels very smooth and progressive, providing a helpful amount of forward momentum.
The updates to the outsole / tread design of the Hoka Speedgoat 5 wide are perfect. The lugs are aggressive but now reinforced to provide more mileage. The grip of the Speedgoat 5 is fully enabled by the use of Vibram MegaGrip rubber, as seen on the previous version. The MegaGrip rubber works on every trail surface but is a standout performer when it gets wet and slippery.
How it’s different: Think less weight and more traction. (A half ounce lighter, to be exact.)
Why you’ll love it: Everything you love about the Hoka Speedgoat, levelled up.
